What movies and TV shows feature AI robots?

June 29, 2023 Many movies and TV shows feature artificial intelligence (AI) robots and related technologies.  The first artificial intelligence (AI) featured in a movie is a matter of interpretation. Different films have depicted AI or AI-like entities in various ways. A notable early example is the film "Metropolis" released in 1927. In this silent science fiction film directed by Fritz Lang, a character named Maria creates a robot in her likeness, which can be considered an early representation of an AI-like entity.  Another influential film featuring AI is "2001: A Space Odyssey" directed by Stanley Kubrick and released in 1968. The movie showcases an intelligent computer system named HAL 9000, which controls the spacecraft and interacts with the human crew. HAL 9000 is often considered one of the most iconic AI characters in film history. Two highly influential science fiction movies featuring diversely different forms of AI include Star Wars and Transformers. M

What professions will be replaced by AI?

June 28, 2023 Most certainly, all professions (all) will be impacted by artificial intelligence (AI) in the next three decades. That does not mean that all professions will be replace by AI. It means that all professions will be impacted one way or another by AI.  In general, licensed professions (i.e. trades that require professional certification and licensure) will the most protected from full replacement by AI. Think about medical doctors, for example. What are the chances that in the next 30 years, the U.S. Congress will allow machines to independently administer medical services to patients in the USA? Chances are very slim. However, outside of the USA, and online, reality may be different.  The same rationale above to most other licensed professions in the USA (e.g. engineers, lawyers, CPAs, dentists, optometrists, chiropractors, etc). These professions will most likely find ways to ensure legal protections against full replacement by AI. Non-licensed trades and professions, how

What is the difference between computers and AI?

June 27, 2023 Artificial intelligence (AI) is performed by advanced computers with state of the art neural processing chips and machine learning software. There is no fundamental difference between AI and computers. AI is generated by computers. Today, let's recap a super brief history of computers.  The history of computing spans several centuries and encompasses the development of various technologies and concepts that led to the modern computers we use today. The origins of computing can be traced back to ancient times when civilizations developed tools and devices for calculation. Ancient civilizations like the Sumerians, Egyptians, and Greeks used devices such as the abacus, the Antikythera mechanism (an analog computer), and mechanical calculators like the astrolabe.  During the 1800s, significant advancements were made in mechanical computing. English mathematician Charles Babbage designed the Difference Engine (1822) and the Analytical Engine (1837), which are considered ea

Will AI replace religion?

June 26, 2023 Will AI replace religion? The history of religion is a vast and complex topic that spans thousands of years and encompasses a diverse range of beliefs, practices, and cultural contexts. Here, we provide a brief overview of the history of religion:          Prehistoric and Ancient Religions : The origins of religion can be traced back to prehistoric times when early humans developed rituals and beliefs related to their experiences and understanding of the natural world. Archaeological evidence suggests that prehistoric humans engaged in burial practices, cave paintings, and the worship of various deities or spirits. In ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China, organized religious systems emerged, often centered around polytheistic beliefs and associated rituals.          Classical Religions : During the classical period, several influential religious traditions emerged. In ancient Greece, the Olympian gods and goddesses were worshiped, and philos

Will China win the AI race?

June 25, 2023 Will China win the AI race? That is a very good question. No one can predict the future with 100% certainty because we have not created the future yet. Quantum mechanics show us that the future is uncertain rather than predetermined. China is definitely a big player in the artificial intelligence (AI) competitive landscape.  China's main competitive advantage in the AI competition is its vast population and loose privacy laws. With a population of over 1.4 billion inhabitants--second only to India--China can harness incredible amounts of big data to train its AI generative transformers. The communist regime in China is also notorious for not necessarily respecting intellectual property laws, and for monitoring all social and online activity. Therefore, whatever AI technology is developed in other countries will be quickly implemented in China if it serves the goals of the communist party.  While it is not certain that China will dominate the AI landscape, it is easy t

How is AI used in Wall Street?

June 24, 2023 How is artificial intelligence (AI) being used in stock market trading and investing? AI is increasingly being used in various aspects of investing to assist with decision-making, analysis, and automation. Here are some ways AI is applied in the field of investing:      Data Analysis and Pattern Recognition: AI algorithms can analyze large volumes of financial data, including historical price movements, company financials, news articles, and social media sentiment. By identifying patterns and correlations in the data, AI can help investors make informed predictions about future market trends and potential investment opportunities.      Algorithmic Trading : AI-powered algorithms are used in algorithmic trading, also known as quantitative trading. These algorithms automatically execute trades based on predefined rules, market conditions, and data signals. AI can help identify trading signals, optimize trading strategies, and execute trades with speed and accuracy.      Ri

Why is everyone talking about AI?

June 23, 2023 Artificial intelligence (AI) is the hottest innovation these days. The debut of ChatGPT earlier this year put AI in everybody's radar. Every single corporate press room is talking about AI. No one wants to stay behind or miss out. Is AI a temporary fad, or is it here to stay for the long run?  AI is definitely not a fad. AI is here to stay. AI can be seen as the third phase of the computer era. The first phase was standalone computers. Taking a man to the moon was perhaps the greatest achievement of standalone computers. The second phase of the computer era began with the worldwide web, or internet. Think of web pages and social media as the greatest contribution of the internet phase. AI is the third phase and will be ultimately characterized by an internet of smart robots.  How smart can AI robots become?   There is practically no limit to how smart the internet-connected AI robots of the near future can become. Think about C3PO and R2D2 from Star Wars. We are only

Will AI find alien life in exoplanets?

June 22, 2023 No one knows if humanity will ever find life beyond planet Earth. Chances are that any such discovery will not happen any time soon or within our lifespans. Everyone who is alive today will most likely die before humanity can confirm the existence of extraterrestrial (ET) life. However, chances are that if and when "ET" life is discovered, it will be thanks in whole or part to artificial intelligence (AI). Part of the search for ET life is comprised of the search for exoplanets, which are planets orbiting stars outside our solar system. Artificial intelligence (AI) is already playing a crucial role in the search for exoplanets all around the universe. Here are a few ways AI is aiding in this endeavor: Data Analysis : One of the primary methods for detecting exoplanets is through the analysis of light curves, which are measurements of a star's brightness over time. AI algorithms can analyze vast amounts of data from space-based observatories, such as the Kepl

Will AI be bigger than 3D printing?

June 21, 2023 AI will be bigger than 3D printing. Although some feel that 3D printing did not live to its hype, evidence shows the contrary. 3D printing continues growing every year, and its potential remains tremendous. AI will have a similar trajectory, where reality may not meet initial expectations for a while, but the technology will continue growing and growing in the background.  The History of 3D Printing The concept of 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, originated in the 1980s. The first working 3D printing technology was developed by Charles W. Hull, who invented a process called stereolithography. In 1983, Charles Hull co-founded a company called 3D Systems Corporation and received a patent for stereolithography apparatus and method. Stereolithography involved using a computer-controlled laser to selectively solidify layers of a liquid polymer to build a three-dimensional object. This marked the beginning of the modern era of 3D printing. Throughout the 1980s

What does ChatGPT think about Trump?

June 20, 2023 Was Donald J. Trump the best president, the worst, or just another president? Different people have different opinions to answer that politically-loaded question. What does ChatGPT "think" about it?  Here's ChatGPT's answer to the question: What do you think about Donald Trump?     " As an AI language model, I don't have personal opinions, emotions, or political biases. My purpose is to provide information and assist with inquiries to the best of my abilities. I can provide factual information about Donald Trump, such as his background, political career, and significant events during his presidency. However, opinions about political figures are subjective and vary widely among individuals. It's important to note that political views and opinions are personal and can differ greatly depending on one's beliefs, values, and experiences." Note that the answer above is a polished answer, programmed or "trained" into ChatGPT to a

What is Generative AI?

June 19, 2023 Generative artificial intelligence (AI) will help us do more and reach farther than ever before. Generative AI refers to a category of artificial intelligence techniques and models that are designed to generate new content, such as text, images, audio, or even video, that is original and creative. Unlike other types of AI that focus on recognizing patterns or making predictions based on existing data, generative AI aims to produce novel outputs that resemble human-generated content. Generative AI has applications in various fields, including creative arts, content generation, recommendation systems, chatbots, and more. It enables the production of realistic synthetic images, the generation of human-like speech, the creation of music, and the development of virtual characters.  Generative AI makes us think about all previous human inventions and innovations, and how they have expanded the human "conquest" of planet Earth. Think about canoes and horses, just as tw

Will AI replace architects and civil engineers?

June 18, 2023 AI will not replace architects-engineering (AE firms) any time soon. AI is already assisting and augmenting the capability of AE professionals worldwide. This trend will continue growing and expanding within the next three decades. This is the time to jump into the AI "train". Opportunities abound and there will be more opportunities every single day in the next thirty years.  Architects  design and plan buildings and other real property structures. Architects apply technical knowledge, creativity, and expertise to design functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces that meet applicable regulations, code requirements, and client needs. Architects start by developing a concept or idea for a building. They consider factors such as the purpose of the structure, its location, the available resources, and any relevant regulations and building codes. Architects then create detailed drawings and specifications that outline the design, materials,  construction methods,

Is AI new?

June 18, 2023 Not at all. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been around for a long time. AI refers to computer hardware and software mimicking human intelligence. Recent innovations in the specific field of Generative AI such as ChatGPT are making many people believe that AI is a "new" thing. In fact, AI has been around for a long time, and can be said to be as old as the first programmable electronic computers of the 1930s.  For more on the history of AI, and specifically for more about the history of Generative AI, check out this excellent article by TechTarget.com , What is Generative AI? Everything you need to know.  The article above will give you a very good idea about the history of AI, and where we are going next with the technology. Below are some additional notes to spark a few thoughts. The term "computer" was coined in the 1600s to describe a person making calculations and computations. The Yong Mans Gleanings, written by English writer Richard Braithwait

What will happen with AI?

June 15, 2023 The next three decades will be marked by the gradual and continuous roll out expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) applications and AI-powered robotics into human economy and society.   AI applications (computer programs running on neural networks) will help humans in everything. Gradually, technology companies will merge robotics and AI applications to market robotic assistants. Relatively soon (probably by the 2050s), robotic AI units will conspicuously abound in modern cities and suburbs. That means abundance of AI robotic police, firefighters, nurses, teachers, tutors, trainers, writers, retailers, guards, bartenders, cooks, construction workers, farmers, janitors, tour guides, general helpers, etcetera, etcetera. There are two trends and business opportunities to capitalize on during the three decades in the US and worldwide.         Training . Training is king. Current AI applications need plenty of training (learning reinforcement) to produce accurate results.

Wil ChatGPT eliminate jobs?

June 15, 2023 ChatGPT and similar AI bots will eliminate some jobs, and in so doing will end up creating many more jobs. That is our prediction based on the combined history of humanity and technology.  Machines are always better than humans. Machines are designed to be better than humans in whatever they are designed to do. Think about cars for example. They are better than horse carts. They were envisioned and designed to be better than horse carts. Before the invention of cars, horse carts were prevalent and part of a thriving personal transportation industry. Along came the internal combustion engine to facilitate the invention of cars to replace and displace horse carts.  What happened to the demand for individual and family transportation? Did it die with horse carts? No, it did not. In fact, demand for personal transportation exploded with the invention of the car over a century ago. It is still growing to this day! More cars and more roads are being built worldwide. Horse carts

Is ChatGPT plagiarism?

June 14, 2023 The "GPT" acronym in ChatGPT stands for "Generative Pre-trained Transformer". This "GPT" acronym could easily stand for "General Plagiarism Technology".  ChatGPT generates its "original" content by statistically "cutting and pasting" from content created by others and loaded into ChatGPT's database.  To some extent, ChatGPT is plagiarizing content, regurgitating it as new content. Technically speaking this is not plagiarizing, but rather the creation of original derivative content. That is not too different from what we humans do when communicating with others. We essentially regurgitate what we have learned from others in our cultures and social circles. Therefore, we don't see anything wrong with ChatGPT's big data plagiarism. Long live the king of big data plagiarism, ChatGPT.   ChatGPT generates content by transforming input into output. ChatGPT is a computer program, and that's what all compu

What diet ChatGPT recommends?

June 13, 2023 ChatGPT revealed the secret to losing weight. Spoiler alert. You will not like ChatGPT's take on this.  It's not what you or anyone else wants to hear. But don't blame ChatGPT. Poor thing is just following a statistical algorithm. Don't shoot the clueless messenger bot.   ChatGPT is an impressive AI tool for big data "plagiarism". The bot is a privileged dandy with access to millions of webpages and billions of online articles discussing every subject imaginable. When it comes to the always popular topic of diets and losing weight, ChapGPT can feast on a seemingly unlimited buffet of entries for clever predictive generative plagiarism. Human questions are AI answers.  When playing with ChatGPT, and other generative AI models, prompts dictate output. A classical rule of computing that does not change even with AI is garbage in garbage out (gigo). The quality of your prompts dictate the quality of ChatGPT results. Quality prompts generate quality o

What are weights and biases in AI?

June 12, 2023  For the answer to this question check our AI Wiki source.  Weights and biases are parameters added to regulate the signal from one neuron to another in artificial intelligence (AI) neural networks. AI neural networks are meant to replicate to some extent the neural operations of the human brain. In human brains, neurons send signals to other neurons to activate mental associations that generate learning. Likewise, in AI neural networks neuromorphic chips called also "neurons" receive input and communicate signals to other layers of neurons to produce output.  Weights regulate the importance of input variables within a signal. Important input should carry more weight into the signal than less important input. For example, let's assume that your AI model is calculating lifestyle habits that may correlate to good health. Variables include sleep, nutrition, exercise, meditation, relationships, income, etc. If sleep is more important than income, weights would b

What will AI be like in the 2050s?

June 11, 2023 Can you imagine what AI will be like thirty years from now, in the 2050s?  Most likely than not, human societies in the 2050s will resemble science fiction of today. Smart robotic assistants like C-3PO and R2-D2 from Star Wars should be common. Units resembling the Transformers should also be common also, although they will be manufactured here on Earth rather than coming from outer space. Silicon robotic units like in iRobot should be around as well. This is not a stretch of the imagination. The technology is practically available today. Combine generative algorithms like ChatGPT to robotic units like the Boston Dynamics prototypes, and voila!, there you are. By the 2050s, AI will not only be in robots. AI will be most likely integrated and embedded in humans. Thirty years from now, there should be a strong market for AI wearables and implants. These devices should allow for almost instantaneous communication between the human brain and AI subscription services. Humans s
