No need to reinvent the wheel with AI?

April 27, 2024

What is AI?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is computerized human-like intelligence. AI simulates and replicates human intelligence. AI encompasses a broad range of techniques that enable computers to perform tasks that in the past were exclusive to humans such as encoding / decoding natural language, learning from experience, and having agency to make decisions.

AI systems can be classified into two main categories:

  • Narrow AI (Weak AI): Narrow AI refers to AI systems that are designed and trained for specific tasks or domains. These systems excel at performing well-defined tasks within a limited scope. Examples of narrow AI applications include virtual assistants (e.g., Siri, Alexa), image recognition systems, recommendation algorithms (e.g., Netflix recommendations), and autonomous vehicles.
  • General AI (Strong AI): General AI refers to AI systems that possess the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks and domains, similar to human intelligence. General AI is where the technology is going to develop computers that can perform independent reasoning, self-awareness, and creativity. and self-awareness.

AI technologies encompass a variety of approaches and methodologies, including:

  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a branch of AI that focuses on enabling computers to understand, interpret, and generate human language. NLP techniques are used in applications such as language translation, sentiment analysis, and chatbots such as ChatGPT and Bard.
  • Computer vision is a field of AI that enables machines to interpret and analyze visual information from the real world, such as images and videos. Computer vision algorithms can be used for tasks such as object detection, facial recognition, and medical imaging analysis.
  • Machine learning is a subset of AI that involves training algorithms to recognize patterns and make predictions based on data. This approach allows AI systems to improve their performance over time without explicit programming. Deep learning is a specialized form of machine learning that uses artificial neural networks with multiple layers (hence the term "deep") to extract features from data and learn complex patterns. Deep learning has achieved remarkable success in areas such as image and speech recognition.

No need to reinvent the wheel?

AI has a practically infinite range of application across all segments and endeavors of human society. AI is the new black and the new wheel. AI will soon replace the wheel as the proverbial mother of all inventions. From "you don't have to reinvent the wheel", humanity will gradually move to "you don't need to reinvent AI". AI will help humans invent and reinvent everything, including human life itself.

The phrase "you don't have to reinvent the wheel" means that humans don't need to create something entirely new or start from scratch when a solution or method already exists that can be used effectively. It suggests that there are often existing solutions, tools, or approaches that have been proven to work well and can be adopted or adapted to address a particular problem or achieve a desired outcome.

In a broader sense, "not reinventing the wheel" promotes efficiency and pragmatism by inviting humans to leverage existing technologies. On the other hand, the mindset prompted by the phrase could have an adverse effect creating complacency and lack of innovation. The phrase should be taken as emphasizing the importance of learning from past experiences, building upon existing foundations, and avoiding wasteful inefficiencies. However, it should be ignored sometimes to continue creating stuff just for fun.

It is okay to recognize the value of a pre-existing technologies. It is okay to strike a pragmatic balance between creating something new (innovation) and using what already exists (adaptation). It is okay to metaphorically stand on the shoulders of previous geniuses of human creativity. Nonetheless, it is super fun and intellectually rewarding to invent and reinvent things.

Human glory comes from imagination and creativity. AI carries the promise of becoming one of the top human inventions of all times, sharing top spots with other transcendental inventions such as language, God, and money. AI will help humans be more creative and productive than ever.

Embracing AI

The time to embrace AI is now, and will always be the "now" of the future. AI is here to stay just like computers, the internet, and smartphones. AI is simply a continuation of the modern computer era that began in the 1950s.

Humans today with AI are repeating the 1950s - 1960s regarding electronic computers and electronics in general; the 1970s - 1980s regarding personal computers; the 1990s and 2000s regarding the internet; the 2010s regarding smartphones and social media. The 2020s marked the beginning of the AI phase. It will mark the next decades and permeate everything, absolutely everything. There will not be a single aspect of modern human society that will not be impacted by AI.

Back in the 1950s, the pioneers of computer science envisioned the advent of AI, with computers imitating human intelligence. Some believed that it would take about 10 years for computers to produce AI. It took seven times longer. Yet, here it is. The future envisioned in the past regarding AI is finally here in the present time.

The last 70 years were characterized by the rollout of modern computers into all aspects of human society. The next 70 years will be "more of the same" in the sense of continuing the computerization of human society. Eventually, way past 70 years from now, the computerization of everything will lead to transhumanism, and the computerization (digital or quantum) of human life. That will lead to a new dominant species on Earth that we call AI Sapiens.

AI Sapiens

AI Sapiens will likely develop in the future. For now, and during the rest of your lifespan, homo sapiens will most likely continue ruling Earth. Chances of extraterrestrial alien life forms reaching Earth to colonize humans seem slight to none based on the current evidence of alien life, which rests at zero. Chances of other animals developing superior intelligence to colonize humans appears to be almost zero as well. Now, chances of AI-augmented humans gradually becoming a new dominant species, AI Sapiens, seem likely well into the future.

It took about 70 years to develop AI from modern computers. Who knows how long it might take to develop AI Sapiens from AI and homo sapiens. It will most likely take longer than seven decades, but should take less than seven centuries. It is yet to be created and seen. The universe is a creation matrix, a creatix. The future has not been created yet. It is being created today. Don't miss out on the creationist party. Become a happy creator. Embrace creatix.

The best is yet to come. Don't miss out. Stay tuned.

Will AI enslave or free humans?

April 9, 2024 Who knows. The most likely scenario is that AI will free humans, not only from forced work for survival and that AI may become the new "slave". AI may also help humans turn into a more advanced (less biological and more artificial) species. Chances are that no human who is alive today will ever see that form of transhumanism materialize. Some current humans may likely live in a transitional phase where AI will continue replacing human workers in every field, allowing humans more free time to become the new "slave masters" on Earth.  We have discussed in many past articles slavery as one of the foundational technologies (tools and methods) developed by humans. All great human civilizations were built on the backs of slaves and slavery-based agricultural economies. The machines of the industrial revolution eventually replaced slaves and freed them globally. AI is the new "slave" and will lead to a new "slavery-based" economy that will

What is AI, what is the Problem Paradox, what are problems and what are solutions?

January 20, 2024  Artificial intelligence (AI) is human-like computerized problem-solving ability.  The Problem Paradox is that the solutions to problems create more problems, which are oftentimes more complex than the original ones. AI will become humanity's problem-solving utility of choice. AI will solve problems faster than any human--or all of humanity for that matter--could ever solve alone. This means that AI will create more problems faster than any previous technology in the history of humanity. This will be nerve wracking for many, and also an incredible business opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors. This article explores what are problems, what are solutions, and what are common problem-solving techniques. It continues introducing the Creatix Medium's concept of the Problem Paradox and begins to drop a new Creatix concept about the AI of Everything. Let us know what you think. AI is the latest "fad" in computer science, and the hottest bubble craze i

Can the essence of animal life be programmed into AI?

September 22, 2023 Yes, the essence of animal life can be programmed into AI.  The first step would be determining what is the essence of animal life. As everything else in this universe, life seems to be related to balancing or neutralizing opposite states. Opposites refer to symmetrical antithesis in value. This universe seems to work by dynamically interplaying opposite states. That could be opposite spin, direction, charge, force, etc.  Animal life seems to hinge on the dynamic balancing of opposite electrochemical impulses produced by the brain. These two opposite impulses are what humans refer to as "pain' and "pleasure". Everything an animal life is controlled by pain and pleasure. Everything an animal, including all humans, have ever done in history, are doing today, and will do tomorrow is utterly controlled by the dynamic interplay of painful and pleasurable electrochemical impulses orchestrated by the brain.  The pain / pleasure pathways are inherited (gen
